Ferro Rod
Bow and Arrows
fishing line and hooks
trapping wire
saw
ax
multi tool
2qt pot
sleeping bag
tarp
anyone that brings extra food rations is an idiot and i would guarantee they won't win, Jacques and Karie.
It appears they can't bring a gill net on this one.
and i pick Benji to win it.

That list was from season 8 and I don't know if that's everything available or just was is most popular. I know they have the option of taking certain rations.
As for the gill net, there's no reason if the rules were like last year.

well not a single contestant is taking a gill net, so i would assume it's not allowed for that reason.
A few are taking paracord, so maybe they are going to make a gill net out of that, but that seems rather dumb.
I would think the worst part about this adventure is the fact that you don't have containers for water. I do'nt know where they are specifically in Labrador, but hopefully on the sea so they can find debris. Having to only use a pot to gather water and drink from has to be irritating.

That's a good point. The show allows for using debris and some clever things have been repurposed from washed up debris

I am pumped for the new season. Can't wait to judge & criticize their absolutely boneheaded mistakes.
You gotta build a LARGE shelter that you can move around in, especially when the snow sets in. So many contestants make small shelters that all they can do is sleep & tend their fire. You've got to give yourself space to stand up, comfortably, & move around inside of.
You also HAVE to set as many snares as you physically can & forage for the edible plants/berries. Searching for debris has to be a daily priority as well. More items to store water in comes in clutch.

This is so important for anyone planning to stay their for 60+ days. It doesn't need to be huge, but it needs to be big enough to stand up in and move around. You should have a bed, and you should have enough room for a chair in front your fire where you can relax and work on things inside. Hell i'd say you should even have a covered porch area as well so you can store things on it like firewood, as well as a place to sit outside when it's raining/snowing and not get wet.
I'd be tempted bring a shovel as an item to dig out the area a bit like the english girl did from last season. Her shelter was pretty awesome, and seems like one that would be a lot warmer than one that's completely above ground.

I want them to focus on survival and not the personal problems like they did last season. I don't want Dr. Phil issues.

I've watched all the seasons of this show and I've become convinced someone will be seriously hurt, or even killed by a big predator before the show quits airing.
The contestants have been dropped off in some very isolated spots with little in the way of self defense in most cases and have to contend with apex predators like bears, big cats and wolves plus others that can be pretty nasty to run into like badgers and wolverines.
The fact they are alone and do their own filming with the exception of occasional welfare/medical checks leaves a lot of time for things to go from OK to very bad very quickly.
Just had to add this:
Who remembers that black dude Desmond White from Season 2?
Prior to being dropped off he was all full of himself and his chances for survival and even winning the contest and saying more than once before being dropped off how he'd feel sorry for a bear if he encountered one.
Gets dropped off, sees bear sh*te in the area where he is designated to stay and taps out before dark....

Some of the camp spots seem to have big advantages over others. Some have easier access to fishable water or sit on game trails. Luck of the draw I guess.
As soon as someone starts building a boat, they should just go pick him up. Game over.

A massive factor in winning/losing in Alone is the luck of the draw in your spot. Being in areas that produce wild game, fishing, &/or edible plants make or break you.
1 out 3 gives you a solid chance to last +40 days. But as soon as that snow/ice sets in = things go down hill quick, fast, & in a hurry.

I'd go with most of the standard as everyone else. But I'd probably do a Slingshot over a bow and arrow. I'd concentrate on small animals and birds. Might forgot the fishing too. It's always too hard in the weather they face. Lastly, I'd do the spade instead of the axe/Hatchet. I'd want to dig. I'm thinking I could find a hill and make a cave for shelter, go subterranean.

We've seen people try slingshots with little success. If you are an avid bow-hunter that's the way I would go. Every player that scoured big game kills won.
Since I'm not a good bow hunter I would focus on fishing, deadfall's and snares. Anything that would help at fishing is what I would be working toward. Collecting and storing ruffa*ge to keep the pipes clean would be another thing.

well i noticed that he was an avid bow hunter, and i would imagine the salt is to attract prey to shoot, although i'm pretty sure that's illegal so maybe it's just to preserve the meat.
regardless, you have to kill big game to win. The last 3 winners shot big game, and won easily despite the history channel trying to show us drama like they weren't going to win. The second they make that kill and secure that meat, they've won.
They are going to run out of food to forage for and small game to hunt for after a month or so out there. ALl of that small stuff is just to get you by until you make the big kill, and if you don't make the big kill, all you're going to be doing is suffering once the snow starts until you have to tap out.
spend your time on a nice warm shelter that you can live in once the snow starts. stack up your firewood. traps for small game and a gill net should be your passive hunting, and every other waking moment should be spent on securing big game.
and i second, third, and however many more that i don't want to see their personal drama sh*te. It's a survival show. Yeah i get the mental part plays a big role, but i want them to follow closely how each shelter was built. I'd love to have a tally count of how much fish and small game was caught each day by each contestant. I'd like to know how much each has foraged for and saved up. When someone builds something cool, go over it in detail.

I was watching Naked and Afraid XL last night and a contestant had a brilliant idea of eating tomatoes just prior to leaving so when he took a dump, he used the tomato seeds to plant a garden and the damn things are blooming. It would roughly take around 35-45 days to produce fruit. I don't think these cold weather locations used in "Alone" would work but if they ever did a warm climate who knows?

Could have possibly grown in the first few seasons on coastal Victoria Island, but probably not workable. I believe they spend a week or camping with all the contestants making sure they know how to use the cameras, battery packs, sat phones, etc. along with making sure they know how to identify poisonous plants and understand the game regs in the area. I'm sure the food is provided and uniform during this "orientation" week.
