I'll start with honesty. This book destroyed me. And you may think because it is dark and twisted, but the true reasoning is because of the immense pressure to make this one live it up to the first and to be frank, I was a little burnt out. It wrung every last blood, sweat, and tear from my body. And I believe I came out of the other side with something beautiful - a little jagged and imperfect, but beautiful all the same.

I know some may have wanted them to reunite sooner, but I felt like I would be doing an injustice to the realities of human trafficking. And to be blunt, if I was truly being realistic, she never would've been found at all. I truly felt her trials and tribulations were necessary for her development and transformation, and I'm so proud of who she became.

Some will say Hunting isn't a romance, but I will kindly disagree. Zade and Addie have an epic love story, and the journey back to each other may be long and hard, but that doesn't make their love story less than. And they certainly don't need physical intimacy to show how much they love each other. (Though there is still plenty of that.)

Thank you all for taking this journey with me. I know it's dark, and heavy, and these characters have gone through hell and back. But who they are now? I couldn't love them more.

If you enjoyed this one, take a gander to my next standalone, Does It Hurt? It's an enemies to lovers psych thriller, and I'm so very excited for you to meet Enzo and Sawyer!

before i get into it, yes this book is more triggering than the first. like 10x over not even joking. there are very graphic scenes that isn’t meant for the faint of heart. tread carefully, your mental health matters. there’s a list of the full TWs in the beginning of the book as well.

anywayyys
HOLYf*ckINGHELLWHATTHEACTUALf*ck?!?!? i’m not even f*cking playing when i say this book was a roller coaster of emotions. i don’t cry easily when it comes to books but i was f*cking sobbing, crying, and felt my heart being ripped out of my chest. i was screaming with joy as some scenes and kicking my feet in the air at others.

yes i will go ahead and say that this book is 10X better than the first. the writing drastically improved. i was hooked from the very being to the end. i read this in less than 24 hours because i was f*cking addicted.

i’m being dead f*cking serious when i say i went through every emotion while reading this book as did the main characters. i grew so attached to them and wanted nothing but the best for them.

i won’t get into the plot or anything that much since #1 it’s a trigger in itself and #2 there’s a lot to unpack anyway and i’m trying to keep this short and sweet. so i’ll talk about the main characters.

Addie’s character arc and growth was admiring as f*ck. not gonna lie, i wasn’t really attached to any of the characters after reading the first book but this second one really turned that around.

No.

1st book: dark romance
2nd book: SEVERAL graphic and gratuitous rape/torture scenes + revenge(ish) + consensual bloody sex

I’m not ever one for censorship, so feel free to read the book if the TWs don’t bother you. I just don’t feel as though the first half of the book was in any way necessary. It spent hundreds of pages curdling my stomach and for what? To rush through Addie’s recovery in paragraph-long summaries? Then spend the rest of the book focusing mostly on her getting revenge/being okay with sex again? So, we’re just skipping right over any necessary therapy sessions, making new friends, finding a safe space in the world again, and everything else survivors go through just to get to the sexy revenge?

That’s beyond bad storytelling. You put the characters/readers through all of that just to try to switch the book back to a sort-of dark romance?

No.
Absolutely not.

Based on this book’s ratings, I’m very much in the minority here. Just don’t go into this one thinking it’s in any way a continuation of the first. Probably best for you to pretend like this is a brand new series. Different characters. An alternate universe. Whatever you need to do. That’s about as much as the two books connect in this “duet.”

For the record, I did have to start skipping over scenes after the first rape/torture. There are several. Thought maybe I could handle one. Nope. Especially when it was clear this was all happening for shock value and not to treat the issues with much sensitivity.

I am so heartbroken over how this book turned out. Not the storyline because I DNF'd at 70% but because of how high my expectations were.

The author said in a Tiktok comment that this book has more spice than the first. Ma'am, that "spice" was rape. What on earth are you talking about.

The first book of this series was a dark romance. This book, the second, was just dark. Very little romance to speak of.

Listen, I understand that women being sexually assaulted in books is necessary for story lines, and I also understand that sometimes it needs to go into detail to further drive the plot in very rare cases, but this book did none of that. There are VERY descriptive rape scenes from the main character, and they just seemed so unnecessary.

This book would have been so much better if it was a completely different story. Meaning, this book does not seem much like a sequel to the next book. I felt like I was reading two completely different stories honestly.

The first book was all about this girl falling in love with her stalker who works to takedown sex trafficking, while she tried to solve her great grandmothers, who was also haunting her house, murder. Totally amazing story with great spice and an even better plot, despite the fact that the MC didn't really have much of a personality.

The second book, suddenly she's been trafficked and it's not anything about her great grandmother or solving any other murder or the house she moved into, but it's about her suddenly working with her man to take down the people who assaulted her (good for her, though). Both books just didn't mesh together, and it felt very random honestly. If there would have been more storyline in the first book about what Zade does for a living and Addie saying she wants to help or is interested in learning more, that honestly would have made the story flow better.

Overall, I think the author is very talented, she's a great writer and I truly adored the first book, but this one just wasn't it. I'm hoping if I try out her other work it won't be like this.

f*ck this book

What the f*ck… rape fantasy? Get some therapy. I really liked the first book… but this is utter crap. You need to get some help. This isn’t cat and mouse and your bs disclaimer at the beginning of the book is ridiculous. This not a good read. This is trauma and shame on you for pretending it’s not.

Can Zade and Addie adopt me? PLEASE? I'm a good girl I promise 😇

Holy f*ck this story was an absolute MASTERPIECE. It was heartbreaking, it was healing, it was BEAUTIFUL. Zade was just perfection. The way he helped and pushed Addie was continuously fighting for her had me SWOONING. This man is a whole other breed let me tell ya.

Adeline's character development was so insane. Watching her grow into the beautiful and strong badass she is was so amazing. She is just incredible, like seriously. Reading what she was going through made my heart ache, but the way she f*cking proved to those ugly ass mole rats that she is, and always will be, so much more powerful than them was f*cking phenomenal. Addie truly is a precious, rare gem way f*cking more than a regular old diamond.

I f*cking LOVEDDDD it when she chopped [redacted] dick off. I CHEERED!!

Sibby was the perfect balance to the story. It is very dark and heavy so having the henchmen-loving, orgy-crazy doll made the whole thing so much better. That girl had me cracking up every time she talked.

The Cat & Mouse duet is truly one of a kind! I am so f*cking sad that it is over and yet so f*cking happy Zade and Addie got the ending they deserve.

And real quick I would just like to thank my period 😒 for joining me on this adventure. You truly just made it a whole other kind of experience 😐
Ms. HD I will be sending you my tears <3

Please check TRIGGER WARNINGS before reading babes

Zade & Addie I LOVE you and I am NEVER letting you go 😁🥰

ALSO!!! Just so everyone knows, Daire is MINE. Im claiming him now. NO ONE can take him from me!

I don’t even want to talk about this book but I NEED to tell y’all how much I hate it. Most of the people that read and reviewed this book are the ones that either liked or loved the first one - Haunting Adeline. I hated the first one, PLEASE refer to my review for the first book to know how much I did because it was my biggest hate review ever. I never hated any book like that before. The only reason I read this was because I wanted to spite this one as well. It was the sad*stic side of me that forced me to read this which by the way took 2 months to finish because it’s terrible.

The first half of the book is where Adeline goes through everything that a prostitute or a sex slave would. That traumatized me. I know that dark books mean stuff like this but this was way more than dark. I never really hated any author, I just disliked their work but with this series, I hate the author so much. I can’t even express my hate through words because how does any sane human think of all that? I don’t wanna give much details because it’s truly bothering for my soul to even explain.

ZADE IS AN EFFING RED FLAG! I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE ZADE SO EFFING MUCH. I have no idea how half the bookstagram is in love with him because now i’m honestly judging each and every one who would justify Zade. Dude if you’re one of those who says “Oh Zade is hot”, just stop right there cause imma hate you and question your moral compass so much so that I would actually cause an overly dramatic argument.

He says sorry for raping Adeline with a gun in the first book and then goes ahead to say that assaulting her IS in the book of his morals because he enjoys it - Chapter 26. Dude, that girl just got rescued, she was raped and tortured in so many different ways by so many different men, she’s obviously going through the most dark time of her life and then you feel free to sexualize her even then? ATLEAST GIVE HER A BREAK. AND ADELINE? HA just cause she went through assault and is going through PTSD, i’m not giving her a pass. In Chapter 27, she says that she would rather watch Rocco kill a prostitute than listen to Sibby’s intimacy stories. Let me tell about Rocco to those who don’t know him. He is brother of Francesca who owns this particular property wherein they train the slaves to behave and then audition them. But they also kill the slaves if they lose the games that’s played in there. Rocco over here, not only does he rape the girls but cuts their bodies, tortures them, dismantles some body parts from their bodies and kills them in the most painful way for pleasure. I can’t even describe the amount of torture he does to a girl named Phoebe before mercilessly killing her. And Adeline would rather see THAT than listen to a girl talk about her private life? GIRL, JUST CLOSE YOUR EARS! YOU ARE PATHETIC TO EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT. THE FACT THAT YOU WENT THROUGH THE TORTURE YOURSELF AND YOU’RE SAYING THAT YOU WOULD RATHER SEE IT THAN LISTEN TO SOMETHING ELSE MEANS THAT YOU ARE INSANE AND RETARDED! She drives a knife into Zade (for pleasure) while effing him, and he wants that? THEY BOTH ARE MAD AND DEAD BY SOUL! (Chapter 31) Another time while they’re having sex, Zade cuts a rose into her chest with a knife while she willingly encourages him to do it. What kind of inhuman kink do these two have? (Chapter 37) Zade also forces an ultimatum while they’re at it by asking whether she will stay with him if he forces a pregnancy into her. Even though she doesn’t get pregnant, he does the actions that may cause a pregnancy and then justifies THAT by saying she’s on IUD? I didn’t even know what an IUD was until I read this book. My brain was very innocent before reading this hell of a novel and thanks to H.D Carlton, i’ve had so many traumatic thoughts and I wish I hadn’t read this book even for the sad*stic pleasure. I kept dnf’ing and reading for two whole months. I do not have enough power to display the amount of hate I have for this book. I never really was a big fan of smut in books even though I did enjoy romance books but this book made me wanna puke. Not only is the smut bad but according to H.D Carlton there is a lot of spice in this book. MAAM, THAT SPICE YOU CALL IS RAPE! I am not even sorry to say that I hate the author and find everyone who stan Zade as mentally unstable. I am ready to form a hate club for this series AND the author, feel free to come at me if you’re one of those fans. Because honestly, FU.

PS. I WILL ARGUE WITH MY SOUL IF SOMEONE CALLS THIS A ROMANCE. THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ROMANCE.

EDIT: I am reducing my rating because it gave people the wrong impression. I do not support Zade’s character. He is a hypocrite and a rapist. I did enjoy this duet for the writing and the story. This part especially traumatised me but I couldn’t stop reading it.

Potential spoilers ahead!

Now this one was dark dark…
I didn’t expect this even after reading the author’s note.
I know that all the awful cruel scenes were to depict the ugly reality of human trafficking. And it’s not for the faintest of the heart. But I have to say even for me it was sometimes sickening to read some of those scenes. I just couldn’t imagine it would be that bad.
At first i was dumbf*cked how the all mighty Zade took almost 3 months to find his woman.
But i realise that unfortunately that is the best case scenario irl. Most victims in skin trade don’t get rescued at all.. What Addie went through was hard to even imagine and reading it so explicitly made me hurt for those who had to deal with it for real.

The book has 2 parts and the whole first part the main characters are separated and a lot of time passes by.
So if you are expecting a cute reunion, you’ll be disappointed.

Adeline has changed, obviously. I cried for her. She suffers from ptsd almost the entire book and her healing takes the most focus in the second half of the book and for a long time period too. Which I liked. It would’ve been weird and unrealistic to see her being all happy after like a month and willing to bang her bf.
And just like she said “only a monster can create another monster” so she becomes one to get her revenge. As she should.

Zaddy… Why is he so much more f*ckable suddenly??!! Did it really have to take him getting heartbroken and going on a killing spree to finally come to his senses?
Idk man I prefer him in this book more than the first one. BUT I still dislike him as love interest in general.
Also he is a virgo? I call bullsh*t on that, he is such a perfect psycho stalking scorpio.
But anyway, the way he was so patient and understanding with Addie even when she wanted to kill him was almost his redemption arc. Not only did he help her heal but he made sure her abusers paid for everything. He talks too much when he f*cks tho. Like sir? Shut up and do your job.

Still it was not enough. I don’t think anything will ever be enough to justify the horror Addie went through. It all happened because of Zade. Don’t dare denying it.
He angered the wrong person and that douche sold adeline’s address. So whoever says she would’ve suffered more without Zade is delusional imo.

The ending was cute in it’s own way. Anal and proposal aww the romance is truly not dead.

After this sh*t I can read any book. I won’t even bother checking trigger warnings anymore. I’m desensitised for life✌🏻

Why would I want to see the main female character being tortured and assaulted for 250 pages??? 250 pages! That’s like a whole entire book! This was just way too much.

Decent read but expected too much.

As an avid romance reader, this one was bound to fall short for me. Although it continues to fall under the dark romance category, it was more of a thriller. This book will be much more enjoyable to those who enjoy majority of a thriller element than romance.

The trigger warnings are so so heavy on this one (will be mentioned at the end of the review). Although the author warned, I somehow didn't expect it to be so much darker than the first one. I wanted to throw up, cried at some of the scenes and was truly horrified and disgusted. But I applaud the author for having the heart and stomach to write it. It couldn't have been easy. The utterly raw and realistic scenes that take place in the book are not meant for the weak hearted.

Adeline and Zade went through so much pain, it was hard not to feel for them. Especially Addie, she went through so much. You've got to appreciate her strength. I would not wish that on anyone. Zade matured so much in the romantic aspect in this book and it was so amazing to see. He was patient, compassionate, and loving, didn't force Addie to do anything and continued to support her through thick and thin. This book brings more clarity to his character and I appreciated that a lot. The chemistry between the two characters flourished. The way Zade took care of her and the way Adeline opened to him was everything to see.

The pacing of the book was slower than the first one. I get that in some places it felt necessary to the author, to bring out the reality of human trafficking but part 2 could've been sped up a little. It could've easily been 100 pages shorter in my opinion. I skimmed through a bit after 70% mark. There were also too many characters in this one, and that kinda made the storyline too complicated. These two things did dull it down for me.

Disclaimer- My rating for this series is purely based on the fictional world created by the author. It's purely based on the enjoyment level of the stories and characters created. I do not agree to the events that took place in both the books and do not wish that upon anyone. Do check the triggers for both the books before reading.

⚠️TW- Graphic violence, human trafficking, rape, sexual assault, PTSD, blood play, knife play, degradation and somnophilia⚠️

I love when a book makes me nauseous.
*trigger warnings will be listed at the bottom of this review*

I truly don't know how to put into words how much I LOVE this book and sincerely this entire duet. This is a masterpiece and I have been putting off writing this review because this one is hard for me to write.
Hunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse, #2) (20)
I am so enthralled with Zade and Addie. This continuation and completion to the Cat and Mouse duet was beautiful and heartbreaking in soo many ways. With that in mind, this book was dark to another level in comparison to the first and like stated above^, there were parts soo disturbing, the nausea couldn't help but creep in. That's how well-written this book is as well as how moving.

The start of this book takes place immediately where the first ended and then we are taken down a long, dark, and disturbing road filled with extremely realistic and graphic pain, suffering, and traumatic actions and experiences. I cried—multiple times—very hard.

This book doesn't just give up a happy ending for us readers. We are forced through every single struggle that takes place and the challenge, that is, to get out of them on the other side, broken but willing to fight the mental and physical traumas to come out stronger.

As far as Zade & Addie, I didn't think I could possibly love these two any more than I did in the first. Zade truly is one of my top book boyfriends and I mean I really can't just say that about any of my book boyfriends. This man holds such a precious place in my heart, it HURTS me that he is fictional. Addie came out of this duet being one of my most treasured female characters. I personally, couldn't be more proud of her growth. Now let's mention the amazing Sibby. By God, I love that girl. She is something else but just as Zade & Addie, I didn't think I could love her any more than I did before.

These characters mean soooo much to me and this entire duet truly touched me in soo many places. It will forever stay a top read for me and I recommend it to anyone who can handle this type of darkness. I'm so sad it's over.

“𝙉𝙤, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨.”
❧ I also love how this book shows Zade. Honestly he’s just helplessly in love and obsessed. It’s Addie who’s always been in control. He’s never really been in control, when he did the things he did, it was because he lost control, not because he took it.

“𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙣𝙙, 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚. 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙚’𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙭 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩, 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙡 𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙡 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙚. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧.”

❧ When Addie told Zade she loved him, I lost it. Not with tears, but I was screaming.

➵ I loved this book just as much as the first time I read it, maybe even more. Zade and Adeline will always have a place in my heart. These characters are so unforgettable. This book isn’t about romance, it’s about Adeline’s story, her healing and how Zade and Adeline’s relationship survives, (not that she has a choice). I wouldn’t recommend this book to just anyone, because it’s a lot. But if you enjoy these type of books, then this is the best book for you.

It took me AGES to get through this book and I am absolutely not a fan.

Why didn't I like it?

➡ For one, it's my least favorite trope. I hate when the main characters are separated. I lose interest immediately. Three percent into this book and I'm already done. But I'll keep going. It's not the author's fault I hate that trope. I'll keep an open mind.

➡ I have no triggers, luckily. But this book isn't written like a dark romance. It's written like a r@pe fantasy. I mean, I don't kink shame. You do you. Not my thing, however, still keeping an open mind. I don't need a lot of spice. Just enough to keep the story realistic and not "fade to black". I was warned book 2 had more spice. Ma'am, that "spice" is graphic rape scenes, so I mean, whatever tickles your pickle. Doesn't do anything for me.

➡ The characters are duller, flatter, and less dynamic.

➡ This book was kinda cringy. I mean, Addie wouldn't know a healthy relationship if one smacked her. Her parents, Daya, and Zade are all toxic. Sibby is the most tolerable character in the book.

➡ Speaking of Sibby, WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER? Where is she?? She's literally the only part of the entire plot I liked and she just disappears? Fade to black? Get out of here with that nonsense.

➡ Also....there's a HUGE disconnect between the character and her writing. Addie is a literal, professional writer, right?? Then why do her diary writings sound like a 13-year-old girl??

➡ Normally, I love dual POV. That's my jam. I didn't like it in this book, and that's a literal first for me. Basically if there's more cursing, that's Zade. The characters do not have distinct voices.

➡ This series just dragged on and on and ON. There's also a super predictable pattern.
Toxic situation, sex. Toxic situation, sex. Toxic situation, sex. I ended up just skimming through all the sex scenes because no thank you. Sex does not forgive or work through a toxic situation. I really wanted to see more development, but it just wasn't there.

Shelved as 'did-not-finish'

💀DNF @ 10%

This is no judgment to anyone who likes this, but I definitely do not have the stomach for it. I have read some f*cked up sh*t in my time, but nowhere near as f*cked up as the content of Hunting Adeline. The only time I've read something this f*cked up was when I had to study Blasted by Sarah Kane at uni (which also included a disturbing 🔫 scene, btw). That was not a fun experience either. This is too dark and way too descriptive for me. I knew I would read about some really uncomfortable subjects, but this is too much. I think it's safe to say that I can't handle this level of darkness. I managed to read the first one just fine and even laugh off some of the more absurd moments, although I did not really condone the romance between Adeline and Zade. This book, however, I can't bring myself to finish. I actually felt physically ill. I blame my uncontrollable curiosity.

Regardless, I would like to read dark romance again at some point, but something more soft-core for sure. I clearly can't handle the hard stuff.

Hunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse, #2) (28)

Let me first state that this is not for the fairest of hearts. This book has graphic violence, sexual assault, explicit sexual situations, human trafficking, PTSD, and very particular kinks such as blood play, knife play, degradation, and osmophilia.

I could list so many other things. Wrong with Humanity for the sh*t that people do to each other for their so call pleasure… . …..
This book also may not be for everybody and may not be your cup of tea, and I am not saying that I didn’t Struggle with this one cuz I did

I also wanted to mention This book is significantly darker than the first. Please take these warnings seriously…….. So don’t say you weren’t warned.

The final installment to the Cat and Mouse Duet.
The story picks up right after the first book. Adeline is kidnapped after the car crash and is brought to a house to be "Groomed". For sale

I can’t even begin to tell you how much this series blew my mind!!! Especially this book……The last book hadn’t Prepare Me enough for how much of a Darker side of life could be

Hunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse, #2) (29)
Told from dual first-person perspectives this was bit longer than the last instalment but, in my opinion, it was two books in one. But hey that’s just me

‘I can’t help but marvel at the fact that the Society sacrificed their own people’s lives just to ensure that I would be caught. That speaks volumes. “
Not only am I a threat, I am catastrophic.

A diamond doesn’t start off polished in shining, it once was nothing special. But with enough pressure and time becomes spectacular, she is that diamond. She is fighting her way back to the Shadow hunter that lurks in the darkness

What’s Adeline to do when she is thrown into the pits of hell with true monsters…….. Some might even call them men, but all Adeline Wants to call them is sick bastards
Hunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse, #2) (30)

What is a man like Zade to do when his mouse is stolen from him in the dark of night? -only Blood will Satisfy his need for revenge., and he will tear apart this world to find her of course …… No one will escape his wrath, not even those who have betrayed her

I was so excited when I turn the page and seen our Crazy Sibby was back again and OMG You’ll be as excited as I am. When you reach that point where Sibby and her henchman and their crazy antics stand out in between the pages of this book …..

I must say that I did have bit of trouble with how the author left us at the end with Sibby……… Happy Reading Everyone, I’ll see you on the other side

⭐2 STARS⭐
Zade was literally like a dog in heat just wanting to pump Addie every chance and glance he got.

This book was disappointing.
The first book was tolerable but this one uh just NO.

The first half of the book was entertaining with all the stuff happening with Addie as I had no sympathy for her and then there was Zade always cracking his neck (super annoying) and destroying other people's stuff. Then the other half was boring, dragged and superficial as hell and Zade just wanting to fck Addie and doing it.

''Normally I'd stop and stare at her childhood pictures, fantasizing about the kid versions of myself falling in love with her had I seen her then.''
You didn't fall in love with her you were obsessed with her at least if you did that while you were young it would be proper child traffiqing BUT Carlton would be there to savethedayhooray!

The hypocrisy in this book is just astounding. That place should've been heaven for Addie.

"He may have helped her escape and cleaned up her wounds, but he still helped destroy her first. Just because you take the time to pick up the pieces after shattering a dish doesn't mean it's not your fkn fault that it broke."
YOU DID THE SAME THING FKER!!!

"The last thing I want to do is make a s#x trafficqer proud, but in all honesty, it's precisely what I need to do. I just don't want to feel it."
How does she know the perfect answers on how to satisfy dominant men who wants to r*pe women? Cause Zade taught her well.

The way Carlton tried her best to keep the book dark by giving the "helpful bad guys" a "good reason" to make them look like just big puppies wastoobadwriting and then they just went pouff and were never heard of again. AND Addie's best friend Daya getting over killing someone wayy faster than her was mind-blowing😂
what I'm saying is there was no emotional depth shown from herpointofview.

Carlton wanted to go super crazy with this book so gave greater ways to get over trauma which is: open the wounds again but this time let your lover do it so next time you look at them you'll think about him and WOW it's gone!!! LETS FCK NOW!!!

ANDDD Zade was literally obsessed with the word "baby" and it was obnoxious, like every time!!! No matter the situation, "are you alright baby?" "No baby" "yes baby" baby baby baby GODD it was so hard to imagine cuz who tf says baby in every sentence?!!?!!!ITGOTCRINGEY

At the end things were really over dramatized, I felt like it was a telenovela where one was like "No if you kill them, I'll kill myself and you'll have nothing and their lover is like No babyhowdareyou" and ''we only put enough bombs on the entrance of the building so that only the hundred what people standing there would die" BUT the building won't collapse and we're safe woho OH WOW and THEN THE BOOK TURNED INTO FANTASY WITH ALL THE WORLD DOMINATION SCHEMES.

UFFF I'm done!! reading the other half was an endeavor I was constantly checking how many pages are left so I could be rid of this sh*t.

Sibby was the ONLY good part of this

I hated Book 1, and guess what? I hated Book 2 with passion too. Why did I read it? Because I thought it was a wonderful idea to buy this book on Amazon at 2am.

“I am… I am no longer a man — only a beast succumbing to primal instinct. I am annihilation.” I- WHAT. This sounds like a “sigma male”, Andrew Tate fans new saying. Absolutely embarrassing and cringe. No, I will not elaborate more.

“Won’t even let me come near. If I get within a foot of her, she flips out. She absolutely refuses to let me touch her, and it’s f*cking killing me because that’s all I want to do. Daya and Serena have both visited frequently, as Addie is far more comfortable with their embrace than she is with mine.” Why does this sound like he’s pissed off and jealous that her best friends who are women can touch her? He sounds like a child complaining to his mother. Obviously she isn’t comfortable with you, a man, when she was raped and abused by multiple of them for months. Please, grow up.

“And to be frank, I’m growing frustrated. Not because she’s lost in her trauma, but because I have no f*cking idea how to bring her out of it. [...] I can’t save every girl, but I’ll be damned if I can’t save Addie, even if it’s from herself.” Was this supposed to be romantic? Saying that her trauma bothering her is her fault for thinking about it and that you need to “save” her from herself as if this was her fault she keeps thinking of what happened to her?

“When she’s ready to accept me again, I can’t promise I won’t push past her comfort zone and work to reawaken a part of her I’m sure she feels is lost.” Ah yes, get yourself a man who is just waiting to force you to do stuff with him the moment you feel like you’re becoming your new self and surviving through your trauma. So romantic ❤️

“‘Stop… stop f*cking touching me.’” I hear him swallow. ‘That’s like asking me to cut out my own f*cking heart.’” After all her trauma, she obviously starts getting memories when she’s with a man again, even though she has feelings for him. And what does he do when she needs him to step away a little bit for her to feel comfortable? He makes it ALLL about himself. ‘Oh but baby your trauma and your experiences hurt ME.’ Literally shut the f*ck up.

“‘You have five seconds, Adeline, or I will f*ck you anyway.’” Um way to create new trauma.

“‘Zade,’ I growl. ‘Uh-uh, I want you to call me by my other name, Adeline.’[...] ‘God.’” I am NOT kidding when I say this is an actual part of the book. This was my favorite part ever in this book, I had to stop reading and laugh for a good 5 minutes.

“Addie thrashes violently, her hand coming within scant inches of my face as an agonized scream releases from her tongue, followed by what sounds like Xavier’s name. My vision blackens, and I’m furious that the monsters polluting her nightmares aren’t me. I’m the only monster allowed to haunt her f*cking dreams.” And let’s not forget he decides to punish her by f*cking her while she’s sleeping and her waking up in the middle of that.

“‘The man in your head isn’t the monster, little mouse. I am. Every time you scream out another’s name, I will replace it with my own. And I don’t care how mch it f*cking hurts.’” So sweet, now she’s not ALLOWED to have nightmares about her trauma.

Apart from the quotes, other parts of this book also made no sense to me and were just… completely ridiculous?
-After everything that Xavier made her endure, she doesn’t want to get cut while having sex as some sort of kink, and when Zade learns about that, he decides to do it to her as an excuse to ‘reclaim’ that? It felt completely ridiculous to me. You can’t force that on someone after such a short time, maybe wait until the person asks you to do that when they’re ready on their own terms or just accept that they’ll never feel comfortable about that.

-Addie also mentions that while she was getting raped by Xavier, she thought of Zade throughout all of it, trying to imagine like it was him f*cking her instead. Like what? I’m sorry WHAT
-Moreover, using Addie’s dad as a plot device to make it difficult for her to talk to her mom was so dumb. What was the point?

-There was also the part where Claire tries to make an alliance with Zade at the end to rule the world with him. Does the author think it’s that easy to rule the world? Oop, make an alliance there, find a goal, get a few people around the world on board and then just take control of the government that has direct access to the military with the atomic bombs. Just easy work, really.

-There’s some parts in the book where I didn’t even take the time to write down quotes, because I felt like if I just explained it in one sentence it would make sense? Let’s go. Zade recuts all of Addie’s scars because he only wants her to think of him when she sees her scars. He pretends like he took her IUD out of her body and asks her if she would stay with him if he forced a pregnancy on her (she in fact did). They both carve a rose on their bodies to represent their love for each other and some sort of f*cked up vow to always love each other and never let each other go.

-And now, the absolute WORST part of this, the 2012 WattPad writing. “Her caramel eyes”, “her caramel orbs”, “her caramel pools” LIKE OKAY OKAY WE GET IT JUST LET IT GO
