Krakow and McGarry star as Elizabeth Thatcher and Nathan Grant respectively on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart. Krakow is an original cast member while McGarry joined in Season 6. After three seasons of a “will they/won’t they” romance, Elizabeth and Nathan finally make it official with a kiss in the penultimate episode of When Calls the Heart Season 11, “Run to You.” But just as they’re about to get together in the Season 11 finale, “Anything For Love,” Elizabeth and Nathan get shocking information about Elizabeth’s late husband, Jack Thornton, who died in Season 5. What happened to Jack wasn’t revealed to viewers, but it sure stir things up in Season 12.

“We’re not just going to pretend like that conversation at the end didn’t happen, so we will address it,” Krakow told Soaps.com. “Where it goes from there, you gotta tune in to find out.”

But Jack isn’t the only ex Elizabeth and Nathan have to worry about. Elizabeth’s ex-fiance, Lucas Bouchard, who she broke up with at the end of Season 10, is still in Hope Valley. And now that Elizabeth and Nathan are officially together, expect some awkwardness with Lucas.

“There will always be a bit of awkward dynamic between the two of them, even before Elizabeth was in the picture,” McGarry told Soaps.com. “They are just very different men and have different ideals, but they are also in the best place I think they have been. They have an understanding. They both care about Hope Valley and the town and the people in it, they just kind of go about it in different ways. So, you know, I think there will always be a bit of friction between the two of them, but they’re in a good spot. And Lucas gave Nathan his blessing to kind of move forward and let this happen, even though Elizabeth’s pursuing Nathan.”

Krakow agreed that there will “always be a bit of an edge” between Lucas and Nathan due to their shared romantic interest, depsite their friendship. “Nathan and Lucas have both proved themselves to be such great guys,” she said. “Nathan basically gave his blessing to Lucas. Lucas basically gave his blessing to Nathan. But it’s true. I think that there will always be a bit of an edge there between these guys, even if they turn out to be good pals, like they care about each other. But it’s more fun that way.”
